Klaus Kortüm, Johannes Lipps, C Sebastian Sommer
These proceedings of a conference organised by Tübingen University and the Monument Preservation Authorities of the Federal Lands of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria contain forewords by the editors and organisers, an introduction, ten papers, and a register of toponyms. The chapter on transfer contains papers on archaeological explanatory models for the distribution of Roman stone architecture, the first occurrence of Italian architecture in Southern Gaul from the 2nd cent. B.C. onwards, marine thiasoi on North Italian funeral architecture, and the urban redevelopment of Cologne during the reign of Domitian. The chapter on transformation has articles on principals mentioned in building inscriptions from Raetia and Germania Superior, the shift of clipeus decoration from the Forum of Augustus to the western provinces, architectural concepts and building ornaments at Aventicum/Avenches, as well as on the large civitas sanctuaries of Western Gaul. The book ends with recent research on the Porta Nigra in its architectural context and architectural examples from Germania Superior, namely the Temple of Apollo Grannus at Neuenstadt and a building front in the villa rustica of Hechingen-Stein.
