The volume contains a foreword, words of welcome, introduction, and 14 papers on“The prehistoric utilisation of the border mountain range”. The contributions deal with the Palaeolithic in Eastern Bavaria, the use of the Bohemian Forest in prehistory, prehistoric hillforts and hilltop sites in the Bohemian Forest, the development of the Southern Bohemian Basin in later prehistory, the use of mineral resources in the border mountains and neighbouring areas, Neolithic stone axes made from sillimanite of the Bohemian Massif in Upper Austria, anthropogenic influence on high altitudes of the Bavarian Forest according to palynology, activity in the Bohemian Forest according to archaeology and proxy data, and palaeoecological analyses of upper Austrian Lake settlements. Additional topics are a pottery ensemble of the Cham Culture at Weikersdorf, distribution and structure of the Cham Culture in Eastern Bavaria, the prehistory of the Upper Palatinate, Bohemian-Bavarian contacts across the Bohemian Forest from prehistory to the High Middle Ages, and La Tène long-distance routes and travel duration from Bohemia to Bavaria. The book ends with a bibliography and lists of participants and authors.
