Die Bibel

Wie und in welcher Weise können sich christliche Kirchen und Religionsgemeinschaften sowie ihre Theologien auf die Bibel beziehen? Diese Frage beschäftigt die evangelische Theologie seit ihren Anfängen, besonders seit der Aufklärung und der Historisierung der gesamten Christentums- und Theologiegeschichte bis heute. Warum bedarf das Religionssystem in der Moderne kanonischer Referenztexte aus der kulturell ansonsten abständigen Spätantike, während andere Sozialsysteme wie Recht und Politik ihre historischen Horizonte enger gezogen haben?
Diese und weitere grundsätzliche Fragen werden religions-, deutungs-, symbol-, institutionen-, theologie- und fundamentalismustheoretisch wie auch soziologisch und kulturhermeneutisch in den Blick genommen. Dabei geht es nicht um eine Neubegründung der Normativität der Bibel, sondern vielmehr um eine perspektivenreiche Funktionsbeschreibung, die sowohl für die religiöse Praxis in der Kirche als auch für die systematische Reflexion in der Theologie anregend sein will.

The Bible. A Theory of the Holy Scripture of Christianity
In which way can Christian churches and religious communities and their theologies relate to the Bible? This question engages Protestant theology since its beginnings, especially since the age of enlightenment and the historicization of the entire history of Christianity and theology. Why is the religious system of the modern age in need of canonical reference texts from the otherwise culturally distant Late Antiquity while other social systems, such as law and politics, have narrowed their historical horizons?
These and other fundamental questions are viewed from religious, institutional, theological, sociological, and hermeneutical theoretical perspectives. The aim is not a new justification of the normativity of the Bible, but a functional description full of perspectives that can be inspiring both for the religious practice within the church and a systematic reflection on theology.
