Marius Renner examines privately placed debt in the context of the financing of family firms. Core of the thesis is a qualitative empirical study based on the generation of seven case studies, which analyses how the financing of family firms with privately placed debt displays. Focus is on the financing backgrounds, the motivation, prerequisites, challenges, influences by the shareholding families and the consequences. These findings lead to the gathering of conclusions about the financing characteristics of family firms. It shows that – due to its characteristics – privately placed debt complies with the peculiarities of family firms.
