Due to their special architecture, their structural coupling potential of the different systems of families and firms, family businesses have a very specific conflict potential. The conflicts potentially arising thereof might cause the failure of the family business as a whole. The conflict process within the family businesses in this context is characterized as a complex interaction of interdependencies. Without an adequate conflict management including both preventive as well as curative elements, family businesses will be at the risk of favoring existential conflicts or not being able to meet these sufficiently.
