Digital technologies can also be found at the
workplaces of plastics and rubber processing.
Due to these technologies, above all, material
planning, production monitoring and control
as well as order management have changed,
which also effects the work activities of the
Mechanic in Plastics and Rubber Processing.
Physical work close to the product decreases
and is replaced by cognitive activities.
New skills are therefore required in order to
maintain the ability to act professionally. In
addition to personal/social skills, these are
above all process knowledge and the secure
handling of data. The open and technology-
neutral design of the respective training
regulation grants that these competences
can still be taught at present. However, the
occupation should be closely monitored because
it is foreseeable that it will face further
far-reaching changes (new production processes),
which will have an impact on the further
development of the occupational profile
(polarisation) and/or on the target group of
potential trainees.
