Abstract
This dissertation deals with the development of a precise, repeatable and predictable cutting process, as well as the methodical design of a hydrokeratome and its evaluation. After a complete requirements list had been elaborated under technical, legal and ergonomical viewpoint, the creation of the LASIK flap was analyzed by deducting all necessary subfunctions of the hydrokeratome. For these subfunctions a wide variety of solutions was worked out applying a methodical approach commonly used in design engineering processes.
