Manuel Franke
Achat / U-Bahnhof Graf-Adolf-Platz Düsseldorf
Ludwig Seyfarth
Manuel Franke’s design for the new subway station at Graf Adolf Square in Düsseldorf is one of the lasting artistic contributions presented to the public for the opening of the Wehrhahn line in Düsseldorf. Franke created an “line current” that accompanies passengers on their way through the building. It comprises a multifaceted stream of green silkscreen ink captured on hundreds of individual panes of glass that mostly cover the walls of the subway station’s entrances and exits.
This publication presents a comprehensive view of Franke’s visually impressive project—which dissolves the boundaries between painting and sculpture—from start to finish.
