The biography of the Virgin Mary completes Brentano=s trilogy on the life of Jesus, based on the visions of the nun Anne Catherine Emmerich of Dülmen. However, until now the text has only been available in a posthumous edition published in 1852, which was edited by Brentano=s brother Christian and his wife Emilie. In this critical edition the text is reproduced for the first time based on Brenatano=s colleague Anna Barbara Sendtner=s transcript, which he had corrected and intended to become the printed edition. In this transcript several theological passages which would have been considered controversial in the 19th century differ greatly from the published edition.
