Post-Kantian idealism is expressed principally also as a study of the history of philosophy, particularly in the works of Schelling and Hegel. This also is due to Kant. The critical turn opened up a fundamentally new approach to tradition and its foundation in antiquity, above all to Plato and Neoplatonism, to the Platonic tradition among the Church Fathers, Augustine in particular, and to the Renaissance. The appropriation of Aristotelian ontology and metaphysics came later.
