The certification of incapacity to work due to mental health problems has increased continuously in recent years, and family physicians in particular are expected to represent the interests of their patients, but also to take into account the requirements of social security institutions. The authors shed light on these professional antinomies in GP practice from a theoretical and practical perspective and encourage a more reflective approach to the topic.
