The works of Friedrich von Hardenberg
Comprised of meanwhile nine volumes the historico-critical edition adds an entirely new dimension to the understanding of the works of Friedrich von Hardenberg. From the romantic (or romanticist – wenn es um die Romantik als Periode geht) dreamer Novalis, as who he was exclusively regarded, Friedrich von Hardenberg has evolved into a serious intellectual. As a scientist, a geologist, a saline technician and an administrator he was at the height of knowledge of his time and consumed as well as contributed to it, while equally advancing the thoughts of German Idealism, ever sympathetic towards the people of his environment.
The poetic estate of Friedrich von Hardenberg=s adolescence and his so called >Salinenschriften< were lost for 4 decades, until they were discovered in 1983 by Hans-Joachim Mähl in Kracow. This largely unpublished estate, which merits recognition due to its congruence, is made accessible to the public through this edition for the first time. Thus how this young author of romanticism thought and wrote emerges.
